Review of BBB Afterparty at Club Severine on Sunday 21st January 2007

Cuffed to a St. Andrews cross, heart pounding in my chest after hours of waiting to play, breasts throbbing from the recent removal of nipple clamps, stripped to a black satin thong and knee-high boots with... well, that was one of the many excellent parts of the evening as far as I was concerned. Enough about me. You want to hear how the night at Club Severine was!

Jonmath and I have attended several events at Severine and I would have to say this was the best by far. It was very well attended, yet it didn't feel crowded at all. We were very glad that we made the trip from London.

The venue is very comfortable, with a good mix of open space for the exhibitionists and small private rooms for those who prefer not to play in front of a crowd. There was a good selection of play furniture, ranging from several varieties of spanking benches to a nice sturdy cage and the aforementioned St. Andrews Cross. The choice of music was very well thought-out, enhancing rather than intruding, and the volume was low enough to allow conversation in a normal tone.

It was obvious that play was the main thing on the agenda of all the attendees. The furniture was heavily used all night, the cage occupied, and slaves led about dressed in everything from ropes to straitjackets. I'm sure anyone who was there will agree with me when I say that every person present had the opportunity to either participate in or observe some truly amazing scenes, depending on their desire for activity or voyeurism.

The drink prices were no worse than those at any other club I've attended, and the bar staff was friendly and helpful. The bouncers were equally polite, attentive without being overbearing.

But however accommodating the staff at an event is, I always think it's the guests who can make or break a night. Here the guests did not disappoint- the atmosphere was very warm and friendly, I saw some old friends and many new faces, and was able to meet a few people that previously I'd only met here on IC.

Of particular interest to the ladies (of both genders)would be the cleanliness of the loos, and the fact that there are two spacious, mirrored, and well-lit dressing rooms. No struggling blindly into one's club gear in a filthy toilet stall at THIS venue.

My only quibble for an otherwise brilliant night is that while ALL the furniture had sufficient attachment points, only two had any way of attaching a person TO those points. Not everyone carries rope or cuffs to clubs with them. This minor problem could, however, be easily remedied by the attachment of some lengths of rope to the furniture, and since the suggestion has already been made to the promoter I have no doubt that this will be done for the next event. Which we will definitely attend, work schedules and such permitting.

Reviews of Club Severine Launch Party 19th May 2006

Location – Central(ish) Birmingham,
This was my first play party run by someone I vaguely knew for a while, so I was a little apprehensive about the visit. I was wrong to feel like that, I am still floating from a great night.
Entry was seamless – fill in a form, provide two forms of ID, pay your money and away you go. Door staff were excellent and the cloakroom is free, so no fumbling about for small change to stash your bags and coats.
Changing rooms were spacious and clean, and are usually used by the staff of the club. There were even lockers if you wanted them.
The venue, which is very easy to find, is spotless. And I mean spotless. Subbie was barefoot all night and his feet were still clean when we left. How many clubs can claim that I wonder? The club is tastefully decorated with ample seating and tables. The staff, both bar and security were so friendly it made it a pleasure to pay slightly over the odds for drinks.
Music was an eclectic mix of old and new, with the volume loud enough to cover private conversations, but quiet enough to talk over. A good sound system helped there too I think.
The atmosphere was truly wonderful with a good mix of players. From looking at fellow perves, it was obvious there were many scene stalwarts there. In fact, it was a true delight to see old friends, exchange new numbers and emails addies and just catch up. The club is aimed primarily at couples, and I would say couples with a degree of play experience, which was nice. There were a few singles in attendance, but the overall balance was excellent. The ambience was friendly, slightly electrifying and very very sensual without being sleazy. It was obvious a lot of thought had gone into the night.
The main plus point for me, was the total lack of hovering DM’s. I’ve been to so many clubs where DM’s hover around scrutinising every move, making me feel as though I’m doing something wrong (and I guarantee I wasn’t) that I simply didn’t want to go back. When I mentioned this to John Dietrich (the promoter) his reply was a very simple ‘Well, with the right mix of players, no DM’s are necessary’.
What a refreshing attitude.
Membership costs just £20 per couple (2 forms of ID needed) and tickets are £10 each. Cash, cheques and credit cards are all accepted.
There were a couple of relatively small downsides. Not bad for someone new to play party promotion on an opening night:
The hotel listed on the website (www.club-severine.com) as having a special reduced rate for partygoers knew nothing about it when called. They also said they had a check out time of 10.00am. I mentioned this to John when we were chatting and he was a little surprised and, I think a bit annoyed. He told me the usual checkout time is 11.30am and that he would call the hotel and make sure they knew about the offer for our next visit.
The other problem (for me and my partner, not the objective truth) was that the furniture was sparse, small and seemingly badly designed. Since it was Fetters kit, this was a bit of a shock. I have some wonderful FRI’s (fetish related injuries) as a result of playing on one piece that was sort of a horizontal cross where there were thin little cleats (kinda thick wire) all round the edges as rope attachment points. As attachment points they sort of worked, but being able to get up close and personal with subbie was a pain, quite literally as these little blighters stabbed you in the legs as you tried to get near. Another piece was put together incorrectly apparently and was later corrected by another Domme who uses Fetters kit in her playroom.
Both of these things were mentioned on the night and taken on board as the positive criticism it was intended to be. (Only fair really, not nice to whine in a review but not at the time) But neither of these things would stop us returning – work permitting, we will be there like a shot!
The club will, I believe, go from strength to strength, .I really hope it does. I would certainly return. It is open from 9.00pm through till 5.00am so for anyone used to the longer London opening hours it is ideal.
Wouldn’t recommend it for nervous newbies, but I would highly recommend it if you have more than a smattering of of real life play experience.

Response from Club Severine

I am pleased with the very positive feedback we have had from Kathryn and many others.

Long may it continue!

I would like to thank John Bannister of Fetters who supplied the superb kit at very short notice.

The equipment for the next event on Friday 16th June will be by Infernal Mechanix who also supply TG in London.
